The root chakra is the base of the whole chakra system. It is the center that grounds us to Earth energies. This base chakra focuses on survival, and our rights to be here and to have. It is also the center of manifestation of our thoughts, goals, and dreams into reality. Through the root chakra, we connect to our tribes and establish our core beliefs. All these attributes of the root chakra form the basis of who we are and how we perceive the world around us.
Grounding in the root chakra gives us a connection to the replenishing Earth energies. We also send roots out from this chakra to anchor us in the Earth. We can release unwanted and obsolete energy into the earth through these roots. Our roots are like a pressure valve that relieves us of everyday stresses and threats to our survival. These stresses and threats can stimulate the adrenal glands and trigger the fight-or-flight response. If we don't deal with these issues, and choose the flight response, we can end up with survival or coping mechanisms that only serve to deaden pain and memories. That is when we turn to addictions and other self-destructive behaviors. Beyond fight-or-flight, these stresses and perceived threats can create blockages in the root chakra that impact our immune system and physical health, mental, and spiritual and well-being.
The root chakra is the last step to manifesting something into being. To manifest something like a goal or dream, you must first have an idea or thought. Then this ideal must be visualized. We must see it in our mind. Next we must creatively communicate this idea to the world. Then we must put emotion behind the idea. Next we must put action behind the idea. Then comes the gestation period when all these steps come together...and when the time is right...this idea is manifested into reality. Sounds pretty simply, but it takes all the chakras working together to make it happen. Blockages along the way will slow or stop the whole process.
We connect to our tribes through the root chakra. When we are born into this physical incarnation, we are born into a family tribe. We have to trust this family to make sure our needs are met so we can survive. We are given a core set of beliefs by our family tribe. These beliefs determine how we see the world around us. We connect to the tribe's consciousness. We become as strong or weak as the tribe is. If these beliefs tell us that world is a safe place and we have a right to be here, we will create balance in all areas of our life. If these beliefs tell us that the world is not a safe place, we will live from a place of fear. Fear makes its home in the root chakra. When we live with fear, our consciousness is focused on it and we can get stuck in the root chakra.
Tribal association can also give us experiences of exclusion, victimization, and shame. Any of these experiences can create fear in the root chakra. Fear can make us feel alone and isolated. It can make us feel separate from the Whole. These feelings, if held on to, can travel from the root chakra to the physical body, and weaken our immune system. This opens us up to a wide range of diseases and imbalance.
We all have important work to do in the root chakra, work that should be done daily. Explore and identify your beliefs - where they came from, why you maintain them, how they are serving you, and if they need to be modified or released. Everyone knows what they believe, but not everyone knows why they believe. If you say you believe something because your family believes it, it may be time to explore that belief. You are a spiritual being with an opportunity to ascend. Find out what Spirit tells you is true for you. Know yourself. Know your beliefs. Be all you can be.
To Maintain Root Chakra Balance:
* Make sure your survival needs are met in a positive manner. Any stress resulting from this process can be released through grounding and knowing you are not alone. Stress can include money issues, sexual issues, power issues, etc.. Don't be afraid or ashamed to ask for help if you need it. We are all in this together.
* Set aside a few minutes everyday to meditate and ground to the Earth energies.
* Be conscious of what you are manifesting in your life. You will attract what you dwell on in your thoughts.
* Identify your tribes, large and small. Ask yourself if you truly subscribe to the moral and ethical consciousness of the group. Watch for any ulterior motives for belonging to a group. Beware of any negative consequences resulting from tribal membership.
* Love yourself and know that you have a right to be here...and have a unique purpose.
* Remember that you are connected to everyone and everything in the universe and beyond.
