About First Light
I grew up on the edge of a small town, surrounded by woods, fields and rivers. I learned at a young age to listen to the trees, the plants, the water, the animals and the earth. You need to be silent in order to hear. I was silent a lot as a child. Many people took my silence as shyness. They didn't understand that I was listening and observing.
I experienced the sex, drugs and rock and roll of the '60's. I got involved in political and anti-war causes. I explored many religions and spiritual paths. This was a time of major exploration - within and without. I never lost my relationship with Spirit and nature.
I opened a small New Age/metaphysical store in 1999. First Light was my vision of a center where people could regain the power in their lives and learn to be responsible and accountable for their personal health, well-being, and spirituality. The mission statement written in 1999 still applies today: ...To provide the tools necessary to develop a healthful lifestyle in body, mind, and spirit, by means of spiritual awareness and the application of ancient and contemporary metaphysical and holistic health principles.
During the time I ran that shop, I was given many gifts. These gifts came in the form of people (some of which I swear came from other dimensions, planets, and solar systems), teachers (seen and unseen), books (Flower of Life, Diary of a Yogi, Wheels of Light, and many more), and experiences. I was given the opportunity to receive the Reiki Attunements. I completed coursework required for Doctoral Certificates in Healtheology and Spiritual Metaphysics. I was ordained through the University of Metaphysics. I experienced Drunvalo's Merkaba Workshop. I became a disciple of Osho. I was introduced to shamanism. I also went to school for a year to become a certified massage therapist. It was a time of immense learning and sharing.
Many private sessions, classes, workshops, Goddess rituals, Sunday Morning Gatherings, and even weddings, were held at First Light. Through these activities, I was privileged to meet many people who became good friends. They were fellow seekers of spiritual and metaphysical truths, and were not afraid to think outside of the box. Many of these people are still my friends today.
In 2005 my husband and I moved to Owatonna, MN, to get him closer to his job. I was experiencing some health issues which forced my to step away from the healing work I had been doing. I took a job at a local car dealer, and ended up staying there for almost 10 years. Spirit was telling me I needed to take some time to work on me. I continued to study, took some online courses, and attended a few workshops and classes. I was initiated as a Kultrune Drum Carrier by Luzclara, and decided to participate in a year-long shamanic apprenticeship in Wisconsin. Through this apprenticeship I met a woman who would play a major role in my spiritual life and shamanic path. She made it possible for me to complete the advanced shamanic apprenticeship...by teaching it herself. She also made it possible for me to make my first pilgrimage to the Sacred Valley of Peru.
I retired from that "mainstream" job at the end of 2017. I was free to go back to doing the things I love. I was ready to learn more, share more, love more, and live more! I am a shamanic medicine woman - and continue to study shamanic teachings and apply them to my life.
In March of 2021 I became seriously ill. Due to multiple surgeries and many complications I was hospitalized for over 3 months. During that time I faced death several times. The final time I actually experienced death along with the white light experience. I will share more about that later. These experiences have enhanced and deepened my spiritual life and given me profound insights. I will be sharing many of these insights on this website.
To those who were involved with First Light in the past, Welcome! To those who are new to First Light, Welcome! The website is a work in progress, but over time I will be gathering a lot of information to share with all of you.
