The Crown Chakra is the center of your connection with God (Spirit, Creator, Goddess) and your spiritual energy. This is where you become a fully conscious, fully integrated human being. It is called the center of enlightenment because this is where you resign yourself to life on a deeper level. You experience greater love, higher knowing, and deeper understanding. You have the ability to become pure consciousness. You become one with spirit, one with All, and one with yourself. There is no "I". There is no need to judge. There is no need for fear. There is simply pure love, truth, and gratitude.
Until the last couple decades, not many people had their Crown or Third Eye Chakras open all the time. It could be difficult to go to work and the factory or in an office while experiencing spiritual bliss and divine visions. The energy on this planet has shifted and increased in frequency. As you acclimate to this new frequency, your chakras and physical body are able to handle more energy. You are better able to handle your inner and outer worlds...to find a balance.
Ego is one of the main things that can keep you from enlightenment. Ego isn't even anything tangible. It's how you perceive yourself...the illusion you have of yourself. The more you feed this illusion, the stronger of a hold it has on you. It's a coping mechanism you developed to help you deal with negative or traumatic experiences in your past. The ego usually starts to develop around early school age, when you first start dealing with people and relationships. You feel how words and actions can hurt you. You reach a point when you don't want to feel pain anymore. That's when ego steps in and, brick by brick, builds a wall of protection around you. This wall lets you feel safe and separate from anything hurtful for a while, but that separation can eventually cause you more emotional pain then you had to begin with. Certain professions require a person to build this bigger-than-life personal and professional image. Large company executives, people in sales and advertising, politicians, rock stars, professional athletes, movie stars, ...all these roles require huge images. Ego can easily become woven in to these images. There is a separation between them and the little common people. But it isn't just the people in the lime light who can have ego issues. There are so many scenarios within families, within schools, within the everyday workplace, where the protection of ego is used.
A person with an inflated ego would probably have other issues going on. There are usually rigid beliefs they cling to, and they know they are right...all the time. Ego combined with rigid beliefs make it difficult for a person to do the work of the Crown Chakra. They simply aren't willing to go withing and seek inner guidance. They don't take time to meditate and get quiet because they aren't searching for or seeking anything spiritual. They might be in the front pew of a church every Sunday morning, but they are not spiritual. They will be stuck in this pattern of rigidity and illusion until they are humbled and broken. Then, with the help of their higher self, they can re-evaluate their life and become authentic.
In the Crown Chakra you let go of everything that keeps you locked into the physical / third dimension world. This is where you become liberated from all those old beliefs, all the fears, all the insecurities of the past. You become free. Your are inspired creatively, and your knowing comes from spirit and the cosmic consciousness. Your mantra is joy and gratitude.
The Crown Chakra is associated with the pineal gland. The pineal gland is cone shaped and approximately the size of a pea. It is located behind and above the pineal gland in the third ventricle of the brain. This gland is responsible for regulating the circadian rhythms, which are the sleep/wake cycles. When your eyes receive the light from day, a signal is sent to the pineal gland and it secretes and stores large amounts of serotonin. Serotonin is responsible for the 'wake' portion of the cycle. When the eyes receive darkness, serotonin is converted into melatonin. Melatonin is responsible for the 'sleep' portion of the cycle. This cycle creates your circadian rhythm. The pineal gland is also responsible for the regulation of certain reproduction hormones. It is associated with the the development of the ovaries and testes.
The pineal gland has another job. It also is responsible for monitoring the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is responsible for activating your sexuality...the onset of adolescence and puberty. The pineal gland oversees this and prevents premature onset. The pituitary gland is also responsible for interpret and act on your thoughts. The pineal gland inhibits your immediate action on your thoughts, giving your time to consider your alternatives.
Until recently it was believed by the majority that the pineal alone was responsible for the opening and activating of the Third Eye. According to more current information, this is not the whole story. The pineal and the pituitary glands, along with the carotid gland in the neck, the thalamus and the hypothalamus, are all involved in this process. These are all in or around the third ventricle of the brain. All of these must be in balance. Then, when this occurs, there are two specific times in the wake/sleep cycle, or when you are in deep meditative theta wave state, when a true opening of the Third Eye can occur. You may or may not be conscious of these events. When you are conscious of it, it may seem like your are experiencing all the secrets of the universe at once. The thalamus is responsible for rationing out this energy/information. The information and thoughts you focus on create your reality. That is why meditation and conscious thought are needed for the opening of the Third Eye.
